The influence of alcohol on a person

Does a person under the influence of alcohol show their true “self”?

Does alcohol really show who we are, or does it rather create the illusion of a “true self”? Some say that after a few drinks, a person’s real nature comes out – hidden aggression, honesty, or sensitivity that’s invisible in everyday life. Others believe it’s just chemical chaos in the brain that removes inhibitions but also destroys rational thinking. That’s why one person becomes the life of the party after a drink, while another turns into a monster. Psychologists talk about the “mask effect,” which disappears under the influence of alcohol, but it’s hard to tell whether that’s true or just an excuse for behavior we’d be ashamed of when sober. So is a drunk person being themselves, or someone they never wanted to meet?
